The main difference is exfoliation
The US manufacturer lists glycerin, niacinamide, ceramides and a hyaluronic-acid ingredient in both formulas. Salicylic acid appears in Renewing SA; it does not appear in the published Foaming Facial Cleanser ingredient list. Foaming is therefore the simpler comparison when you want cleansing without adding salicylic-acid exfoliation.[1][2]
Both formulas are fragrance-free according to the manufacturer’s product information. That does not guarantee individual tolerance. Formula names and ingredient lists can vary by region, and the label on your bottle takes priority.
When Foaming Facial Cleanser fits the decision
Consider Foaming when you want a daily face wash for normal to oily skin and do not want your cleanser to add an exfoliating acid. The manufacturer describes its purpose as cleansing and removing excess oil. This is not the CeraVe Acne Foaming Cream Cleanser, which is a different product.[1]
If your current routine already includes an exfoliant or acne treatment, review that routine before adding an active wash. A cleanser is one step, not a replacement for the rest of your care. Compare the oily-sensitive routine for a comfort-focused starting point.
When Renewing SA Cleanser fits the decision
Renewing SA is the exfoliating option in this comparison. CeraVe describes it as a salicylic-acid cleanser for face and body. It is a rinse-off formula, not a leave-on serum.[2]
Do not substitute an assumed concentration or schedule: the manufacturer page does not state a salicylic-acid percentage. Renewing SA is also distinct from CeraVe Acne Control Cleanser. Read the salicylic-acid format guide for the difference between washes and leave-on products.
If your skin is oily and also sensitive
Oiliness alone is not a reason to add exfoliation. If you are currently reacting to products, simplify your routine and use products you already tolerate. Neither a fragrance-free label nor a high star rating promises that a wash will suit you.[3]
If a new cleanser leaves continuing burning, rash or marked irritation, stop using it and seek advice when needed. The broader cleanser comparison includes other formats; these two CeraVe products are not the only choices.
Price, pack size and what this comparison establishes
The table uses estimated prices for the catalog’s linked packs. Different bottle sizes and sellers make pack-price comparisons imperfect; check price per ounce on the current listing. We do not name a value winner from the cheaper bottle alone.
This is a formula and routine-role comparison based on manufacturer information and our catalog. We have not conducted a head-to-head wear test, and customer ratings do not establish clinical superiority. Product information was checked on October 12, 2026. Follow label directions; persistent or scarring acne needs professional assessment.[4]
